The 2nd stage of the 25th 2026 "Great Qinghai Lake" International Road Cycling Race was once again decided in a bunch sprint.

The 2nd stage was a long chase battle. A 5-rider breakaway once built a maximum 4-minute lead, but the day ultimately belonged to the sprinters in the main peloton. Alexander Salby, the stage winner from the previous day, failed to secure back-to-back victories. Gabriele Bessega from Italy's Botti - Explore Malta Team displayed powerful sprinting strength on Jinxiu Avenue in Menyuan County, claiming the stage win with a clear advantage.

This marks the 22-year-old young Italian rider's debut at the Tour of Qinghai Lake, as well as the first individual victory of his career. The stage champion could not hide his joy after the race, and shared the thrilling moments of the final kilometer: "My teammates delivered a perfect lead-out for me in the final sprint, and I was in great form today. When the peloton launched the sprint, I knew I had a chance to win, and I finally took the victory — I'm absolutely over the moon."

Talking about the stage that day, he said: "This stage suited me pretty well, I really enjoyed it. It was somewhat challenging, but I gave it my all and took the win."

Tomorrow (July 13), the 25th 2026 "Great Qinghai Lake" International Road Cycling Race will host its 3rd stage — the ICBC Menyuan to Huzhu race. This stage features 2 categorized climbs and 3 intermediate sprint points, with the race difficulty further upgraded. The two climb points located 40 kilometers from the finish are likely to become the first key point for the general classification to split apart.
