The fifth stage from is a 132km ride from Xihai Square all the way south to Dajie Culture and Media Centre in Gonghe.
Located on the north bank of Qinghai Lake, Xihai is also known as the nuclear city since it has the first nuclear test site in China. The town witnessed the creation of the first atomic bomb, the superatomic bomb China. The town has amazing greenland and mountain areas. Mapi River and Halijin River runs through the 1100-acre Jinyintan grassland. Local people here include Zang, Han, Mongolia, Hui, and Salur national, which builds a unique culture in Xihai. More than 300,000 stocks lives in this typical plateau
The finish town Gonghe sits on the south bank of Qinghai Lake and is a star in the east of Tibetan plateau. The town is closely related to Tibetan Buddhism. Qinghai Lake, Riyue Mountain, Longyang hydroelectric station, Fuyi City, Daotang River are all-time interests of tourists.
The stage has 2 points classifications midway at 41.6km, the East Lake farm yard and 77.3km, the entrance to Qinghai Lake Scenery Park. A HC climb is set at 85.6km which peaks at 3740m. Riders will need to climb around 450m within a very short distance of 4km.
Riders will return to the start point of the previous stage, Erlangjian after circuiting the lake. From there they will turn to 201 region highway and ride steeply downhill for 30km which requires solid riding techniques of the rider. Riders will then arrive at Gonghe Dajie Culture and Media centre.
You can overlook Qinghai Lake and the most of the stage including two points collection point from the peak of the HC climb. If the weather is good, you can see the peloton moving from a far.
