On 7th July, 2015, the 3rd stage at Tour of Qinghai Lake starts from Xining and heads to Erlangjian, the renowned spot in the Qinghai Lake scenery park.
Unlike last edition, riders will ride counter wise along the lake. Audience would have more chance to see our riders and riders will come across more amazing view during the race.
Qinghai Lake is the biggest inland saltwater lake in China. It is listed as one of the most important nature reserve which has an infinite variety of animals. Qinghai Lake covers an area of 450,000 Ha and has an average depth of 16m. The surface of the lake is 3196m above sea level. The total circumference of the lake is 360km. The lake is like a pearl sitting in Tibetan plateau.
Erlangjian Scenic spot lies on the south shore of the lake. It is one of the hottest spot in the reserve. Tourists are able to experience traditional Tibetan and Nomads life here under in the amazing open space.
The stage is 149km long. Sprint points are to be collected at 51.8km and 100.5km. The first and the hardest HC Climb of this edition is set at 87.6km which peaks at 3443m. The climb is 10km long and accumulates an increase in altitude of approximately 400m. This is definitely a stage designed for climbers.
Riders will leave Xining city and continue on 109 state highway all the way across Huangyuan County. Then pass the first points collection point and the climb and arrive at the second points classification point in Tanghe Town. Then the 109 state highway will lead them to Qinghai Lake.
The route runs across also the Riyue mountain scenic spot which is 40 southwest to Huangyuan Town which has an highest altitude 4877m. The name of the spot in Chinese, Mongolian, and Tibetan language is “the sun and the moon”. The highway runs across Riyue Mountain area divides the region into agriculture area and nomadic area.
Best viewpoint of the region should be the finishing line where a final sprint could be expected. The peak of the HC Climb near Riyue mountain area can also be an ideal viewpoint of the race.
