Tour of Qinghai Lake runs through Qinghai, Gansu and Ningxia Hui Anatomies region. This year the race will kick off from Xining on 5th July. The First stage is a circuit race in Xining, the capital city of Qinghai province. Xining is the largest city on the Tibetan Plateau. It has a mixture of Han Chinese culture and Tibetan culture. It’s also one of the highest city in the world.
The 121km stages starts from Haihu Sports Centre. Riders will lap the 17.24km circuit 7 times. Points are to be collected at the 3rd and 5th and the last lap. Oleksandr Polivoda from KOLSS cycling team was the winner of this stage last year.
Riders will ride clockwise from West Wusi road all the way through Taoli Road, Haiyan Road, Shengli Road, then pass the scramble crossing and continue on Changjiang Road, Xiguan Street, Lenghu Road which leads then all the way back onto Wusi road. The route passes through west central part of the city and passes several landmarks of Xining, which includes People’s park, the biggest park in Xining and Xining Center square. Xining Haihu Sports Centre is the best viewpoint of the stage. The stage will witness this edition’s first leader of general classification (Yellow jersey), leader of the points competition (Green jersey), and leader of Asian riders (Blue jersey).
