Lancang River rises from Guozhongmucha snow mountain in Zhaduo county, the altitude of the sources is 5388 metres, Lancang River is called Zhaqu in Qinghai, its meaning in Tibetan is “flowing river with sands in the mountain”, the length of trunk river is 448 metres, it goes into Tibet at Nangla,it outside of Yunnan is called Meigong River, it is a international river. A large scale of marsh was scattered in the valley of source area of Lancang River the north of the source area is modern glacier, its area is 125 km2 , owing to abundant snowmelt, it is dense to river net, flow area covers 1000 km2 ,main rivers are Layong ,Aqu ,Budangqu, Ningqu etc. It is rich to river power, and can be satisfied with the requirement of field & pasture irrigation, and it is famous for mystical Candaxia Mt. it’s high to tourist value.

Meigong River, the lower reaches of Lancang River crosses Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam etc, therefore it is called the mother river of Indo-China.
