The Zhalinghu Lake and the Elinghu Lakes are situated in the northwest of Maduo County, the meaning of Elinghu in Tibetan is blue sunshine, dawn. The form of the lake looks like gold bell. The width is 32.3 km, the length is 31.6 km, the storage capacity is 10.7 billion cubic metres, lake area covers 618 square kilometres. It is the largest freshwater lake.Zhalinghu, it is also called “Chalinghai”, its meaning in Tibetan is white sunshine. The length from east to west is 35 km, the width from south to north is 21.6 km, its area is 526 km2 , average water depth is 8.9 metres,storage capacity is 4.67 billi on m3 .The shape looks like woodfish, its altitude is 4294 metres,it is 20 km away from Elinghu lake.Chuowagashizhe Mt. is one of 13 holly mountains in Maduo, its altitude is 4610 metres,bronze monument of yak head for the sources of Yellow River was set up at the top of the mountain,the height of monument is 5 metres,Chinese & Tibetan characters of the Sources of Yellow River on the monument were written by Hu Yiaobang & the tenth Panchan.Standing at the top of Chuowagashizhe Mt. Looking into the view of Elinghu & Zhalinghu,Chuowagashizhe’Duoka Temple is at the foot of the Mt, it faces to Zhalinghu Lake, there are a number of Buddhist scripture wall & Buddhist tower in the temple.Zhalinghu & Elinghu area was important passageway in the ancient time. It is said that Shongzhanganbu met with Princess Wenchen in the west bank of Zhalinghu lake.

There are 8 kinds of naked carps with spots, (big mouth carps) in Zhalinghu & Elinghu Lakes.

Many bird islands were scattered in the Zhalinghu & Elinghu lakes area, it is easy to see brown-back ducks, they habited in waste marmot mouse & hare’s hole.
